Ravens climb to .500. Set their eyes on the Steelers for first place in the AFC North
Like Edgar Allan Poe escaping six weeks of writer’s block, the fantastic Baltimore Ravens continued one of the most incredible marches to the playoffs we’ve ever witnessed.
Lamar Jackson and his buds had one of the worst games of the season, but the Poes got it done over the rival Cleveland Browns in a 23-16 win. Only one team left on the schedule, the New England Patriots, should pose an issue for Baltimore if the Ravens can sweep the Bengals, which they should, and take down the Steelers, who may have lost Aaron Rodgers for the next couple of weeks. The key for Baltimore will be its defense, which has made massive strides over the past month. Give Baltimore a big shot and grab the price to win the Lombardi because it remains at an elevated level.
The Chiefs are playing well, but could miss the playoffs
While the Ravens are ascending, the Chiefs are falling behind. Kansas City failed to close the door on the Denver Broncos in a key AFC West game, and it could cost KC a chance at the playoffs.
The Chiefs, like the Ravens, are 5-5. But unlike Baltimore, Patrick Mahomes and his team have two squads ahead of them in the AFC West, the Chargers and the Broncos. Catching both is possible, but not likely, given Denver’s schedule the rest of the way.
If any team can do it, it’s the Chiefs. Please don’t hold your breath for it to happen. Also, KC is no lock to go far in the playoffs if they get there, because they won’t win home-field this season—tough call of the SB favorites heading into the home stretch.
Patriots set sights on home field in the AFC
The drama this season is in the AFC because the underdogs at the beginning of the season, teams like the Pats and Broncos, are playing great ball. New England, especially, has been a revelation.
Hiring Mike Vrabel was a work of genius. The Patriots did this before. New England hired a coach named Bill Belichick after Bill failed at Cleveland and the New York Jets. Vrabel bombed in Tennessee, and Robert Kraft gave him a shot. It’s working like magic.
New England should get home-field advantage. They finish the season against the Bengals, Giants, Bills, Ravens, Jets, and Dolphins. A single loss, probably at Baltimore against Lamar, Henry, and the Poes, could happen, but Drake Maye can sweep Josh Allen and Buffalo because their defense is better. It’s going to be tough for anyone to beat New England if the Pats do grab home-field advantage.
Rams prove they’re the best in the NFC with a win over Seattle
The LA Rams proved they’re the best team in the NFC and possibly the NFL with a nice 21-19 win over the Seattle Seahawks. The problem with facing the Rams is that you can’t shut down their offense and expect to win.
First, L.A.’s offense is flexible. Staff doesn’t have to throw for 400 yards for LAR to get the victory. Second, the defense is the best in the league. The Rams picked off Sam Darnold four times. So no matter what you do, beating the Rams is going to be tough. If the price is right, back the Rams to lift the title trophy today.
The Lions and Seahawks remain on the schedule, but so do the Cardinals twice, the Falcons, Panthers, and the Bucs. So, home field is more than a possibility.
